Nervous System Centered Coaching

For humans who are ready to start choosing their own needs over self-doubt, shoulds and the expectations of others.

Stop dealing,
start healing.

Do any of these sound familiar?

  • You turn back to old coping skills that don’t really serve you, but make you feel okay in the moment– insert food, dieting, booze, mindless scrolling, self-isolating or toxic relationships

  • You struggle with your relationship with food and your body, and find yourself constantly worried about what you’re eating or how you look.

  • You find yourself thinking your feelings instead of feeling them, and feel like you’re never fully processing or moving forward

  • You feel like you know what you need to do differently, but can’t bring yourself to make the changes necessary, or can’t make them stick

  • You’re feeling called to make some big shifts in life but are stuck in the “what ifs,” and fears about letting other people down

  • You find your mood going from 0 to 100, feeling totally calm one second to anxious, numb or angry the next

  • You notice yourself making decisions from a reactive or triggered place, and want to feel more grounded and able to access your internal guidance

When you’re only ever dealing and coping, you’re just getting by– you’re surviving. I want to help you move out of survival mode & heal your nervous system, so you can laser focus on what matters most to you in this life.

Feeling good is built on a foundation of connection with your whole self

We’ve been taught to lead from our heads rather than our guts. In many ways this has served you– It’s enabled you to survive and cope with hard things, and it’s gotten you this far. But my guess is you’re here, reading this, because you know survival isn’t enough.

Oftentimes our mind points us in directions that make logical sense according to our culture’s norms, and our instinctual needs for safety and belongingness. The logic mind pushes us to be more productive, to say yes when we want to say no so as not to disappoint, to shape-shift ourselves into who or what society tells us we should be. The mind is not ‘bad,’ it’s trying to keep you safe.

However, seeking this sense of immediate safety through people pleasing and productivity often asks us to override our nervous system– ignoring body’s cues that maybe we need to slow down, rest, get grounded and check in with our bodies before moving forward. This puts us on fast track for burnout, feeling lost, hopeless or disconnected, and oftentimes in a perpetual state of fight-or-flight.

When we lead with our head knowledge and disregard our body’s wisdom, we’re only getting a fraction of the information we need to make moves in life that align with our greater goals, purpose and needs.

My job is to help you rediscover your body’s built-in wisdom, learn how to work with your nervous system, and get clear on what’s most important to you so that you can start living a life that lights you up.

The foundations of my coaching approach

  • My coaching style is different from most, in that it prioritizes reconnection with what’s happening in your body, and building skills to recognize, work with, and allow for your somatic (body) experience to play a main role in your personal growth journey.

We’ll work together to build skills that help you get to know what’s happening inside of you, so that you can integrate and honor the body’s messages on the regular.

We’ll move at a pace that’s right for your nervous system so as not to do too much too fast. You’ll gain deeper insights into the ways you may be unconsciously operating from a fight-flight-freeze state, and build skills to help your body come back into a regulated state.

  • You are the expert here, not me. I deeply believe you’re the expert of your own experience and your path toward growth and healing. I’m not here to give you advice or influence your process with my knowledge– I’m here to co-create a container with you for you to get reconnected to the wisdom and knowledge that’s already within you.

This means we’re always going to be working at a pace that’s right for you, we’re going to focus our attention to what’s most present and important for you in each session, and we’re going to work on building your sense of self-trust so that you can begin to recognize your Self as your biggest resource.

  • I’m not going to give you a list of homework items or to-do’s. I’m not going to bombard you with all there is to know about somatic work or personal growth hacks.

This work is not about doing more or knowing more. It’s about creating space for you to pause and become aware of what’s happening inside of you, so that you can take more values-aligned actions IRL.

That spaciousness to pause is where the magic happens. That’s what I’m here to help you create and explore.

  • I believe all coping is adaptive. Meaning, all the ways in which you self-soothe are wise, valid, and have helped you to feel OK through painful times. This being said, I also recognize that not all coping skills might be serving you or your values and goals in the long-term. One way to look at this is to start differentiating between “survival” coping skills and “creative” coping skills. There are those coping skills you use to just get through the pain or stress. And there are those that you use when you feel grounded enough to take the long road; tools that may not make the pain go away in the short term, but bring you closer into alignment with your vision and values.

Harm reduction shows up in my coaching practice because we’ll at one point or another likely be talking through your go-to coping skills, and exploring how they serve you (and perhaps how they don’t). But I will never ask you to give up a coping skill under the premise that it’s “bad.” What I will ask you is to explore what happens in you when you use your coping skills, what the risks are, and if the risks outweigh the rewards.

Ultimately my aim is to help you generate a set of coping tools that support you in regulating your nervous system and bring you closer to your big dreams.

  • Radical Acceptance is a phrase borrowed from one of my teachers, Tara Brach. She poses that radical acceptance is a practice in asking, “what’s happening inside of me right now?” and then “Can I let that be?”

In other words, the work we do together is not going to focus on analyzing or ‘fixing’ your thoughts or internal stories, but we will be practicing bringing awareness to them, accepting them and being curious about them from a place of mindful compassion.

It’s in this practice of acceptance -of ALL the thoughts- that we can separate our Selves from the stories, and create space for presence, connection, ease, healing and joy.

  • First, see Radical Acceptance ^

Connection can be thought of as 4 pillars. Connection to Self, others, nature and spirit.

Our work will include rebuilding this sense of connection, because it’s through connection and co-regulation that our nervous systems are able to regulate and come back into a “safety social” state, or in other words, the state in which we feel most calm, open and grounded.

  • Emergence or Emergent Strategy comes from the work of adrienne maree brown. In essence, adrienne defines it as “a strategy for building complex patterns and systems of change through relatively small interactions, and as an adaptive, relational way of being.” Emergent Strategy also looks to nature for models of how to be together and be in this world.

For our purposes, this means we’re going to trust that our small, daily actions matter, and shape larger patterns of growth and change over time. It means we’re going to work on moving with change, rather than forcing it. We’re going to follow the wisdom that arises within you. We’re going to partner together to create adaptive changes that will bring you into alignment with your greater purpose and gifts. And we’re going to work on building trust that whatever change arises naturally is the right change, at the right time.

Client love

Working with Holly was the beginning of the end of a decade and a half of struggles with disordered eating.  She never beat around the bush and I felt as though from day one working with her, that I was moving forward on the path of healing.  She gave me tangible action steps to take, supplemental resources, esoteric insights, and rational advice when needed. I felt safe, seen, and supported by Holly in every session. She offered a nonjudgmental space at a time when I needed it most and for that I am so grateful. – Kristen

I felt held and supported by Holly in my coaching sessions with her. As a Black woman, I felt comfortable discussing how societal traumas impacted how I saw myself and body. Having a safe space to process this helped me unravel years of frustration. – Sherri

Try a full session for free and see if we’re destined to work together.

I want to make sure we’re a good fit, and for that reason I offer a completely free, full length session (55 minutes) to all potential clients. In this time we’ll create a coaching container, talk through what called you to explore hiring a coach and do some coaching around the specific questions or blocks you’re working through in this present moment.

This initial session is not just an informational call or an intake– it’s experiential. You’ll get a feel for what it’s like to work with a somatic coach, and the kinds of work we’ll be doing together.

From here you’ll have a deeper felt sense as to whether or not you want to move forward in partnership together as coach and coachee.

Coaching is an investment in the process of learning how to be with yourself, your body’s messages, your needs, your internal experience. It’s an investment in your nervous system’s healing and regulatory processes.

Coaching is an investment in the shaping of your future, and building a life that lights you up.

My pricing structure is simple: I believe you know when you’ve gotten what you need from this partnership, and when our work together is complete. That could be 2 sessions or 2 years of sessions. Because I believe you know best, I’m not going to lock you into any contracts with pre-determined amounts of sessions. We’ll go on a session by session basis.

If you should decide you know you want to invest in 4 or more sessions at a time, you’ll receive a 10% discount on a package of 4 or more sessions to help make sessions more financially accessible.

If you’re low income and/or possess multiply marginalized identities that make it difficult for you to pay my standard rate, please ask about sliding scale options. I deeply believe that everybody deserves the resources needed to heal, and I’d love to find a way to work together that is within your means.
